Careers
Guidance
Annesley
College has a program of Careers Counselling to ensure that
each student directs her efforts into the areas that will
allow her to fulfill her ambitions.
From
Year 9 onwards, subject counselling precedes decisions about
subject choices. For those who have a definite career in mind,
it is important to make sure that subject choices in the early
years will allow them to take the most appropriate subjects
in Year 12 and in tertiary education. For those who are undecided,
it is a matter of keeping their options open whilst not ruling
out any possibilities through poor subject choice.
Career
Education is provided to Year 10 students, completing computer
assisted investigations into their interests matching their
interests to appropriate jobs. They will investigate career
paths, tertiary courses and determine any prerequisite subject
requirements leading into their subject selections for Year
11.
Australian Business Week (ABW)
Enterprise Education
In Year 10, Annesley students participate in the Australian Business Week (ABW). ABW gives young people the opportunity to learn about businesses by forming a manufacturing company which they run (in small groups) over a simulated two year period in competition against other student companies. ABW helps to prepare students for the rapidly changing nature of work and helps them to develop skills and confidence in co-operative group work, problem solving, communication and planning. For more information visit the ABW website.
Work
Experience
On completion
of Year 10, students participate in work experience involving
a week-long placement in a field of their choice to find out
more about a particular profession.
Students
may undertake further work experience in Years 11 and 12 during
their school holidays, or at the completion of their end of
year exams. The counsellor provides intensive study skills
training to Year 11 students, and also provides guidance to
Year 12 Students in deciding on their future options and tertiary
application procedures in South Australia, interstate and
overseas. |
