Junior School

The Junior School caters for Kindergarten to Year 6 students and is well known for its friendly and welcoming environment. It occupies the south west corner of the campus, and is accessed via Rose Terrace.

In the Junior School we recognise the need to cater for individual needs. Programs are tailored to match student needs accordingly. Establishment of personal learning goals also encourage each girl to
be responsible for her learning, to make good choices and to strive to be her best.

We value and celebrate diversity and support and encourage girls to learn about other cultures and demonstrate as a community a commitment to making a difference. We are committed to developing students who view themselves as citizens of the world.

The Junior School has adopted the Primary Years Program (PYP) of the International Baccalaureate Organisation (IBO) as a curriculum framework. Girls are encouraged to be inquirers, thinkers, communicators, risk-takers, knowledgeable, principled, caring, open minded, well balanced and reflective. Otherwise known as the Student Profile, this puts student learning as the clear focus of the Junior School.

Classroom teachers focus on developing key skills in Literacy, Numeracy, Problem Solving, Studies of Society and Environment, Communication, Health, Science and Technology. Information and Communication Technology is integrated across the curriculum. Staff plan activities to provide girls with meaningful, relevant, engaging and challenging learning experiences.

Specialist teachers take all classes for Visual Arts, Physical Education, Music, Language other than English, Dance, Drama and Library. Girls are also able to take on Single Studies Music lessons. All Year 3 - 6 girls take part in our choirs and Year 4-6 girls have the opportunity to participate in Interschool Sport. We have an active House program as well as camp experiences and a wide variety of extra curricular activities.

Class sizes reflect our belief in small learning communities. This structure emphasises involvement and activity to enhance skill development and strengthen confidence.

Girls learn best in an environment that is stimulating yet challenging, and provides opportunities to work co-operatively and develop respect for others. Staff in the Junior School aim to create an environment where girls feel valued, secure and able to take a risk and make mistakes in order to further their learning. Individual support is offered through the Unique Directions program. This caters for gifted and talented students and students who require support. In addition to this all students are exposed to programs that emphasise the development of thinking skills such as Edward De Bono's Six Thinking Hats.

The Junior School aims to develop girls who are capable of becoming independent learners, who are happy and who have high self-esteem.

To help busy parents and care givers balance family and work commitments we offer both Before and After School Hours Care and Holiday programs.
