The Spirit Of Unley
Annesley College Solar Car Team

WORLD SOLAR CHALLENGE 2003

PRESS RELEASE:
DAY 3 - STEEP GRADES MAKE GOING DIFFICULT!

Today's steeper grades resulted in 153 Km of fairly slow going, but Team Leader Peter Gubbins reported that the team is learning a lot of valuable information about the handling of the Barina - now converted to hybrid car EOS - The Spirit of Unley - data which will be very useful for the future of this class of car.

The car needed to be transported by trailer for the last 190 Km to the Control Point at Tennant Creek. The team is confident of reaching half way mark, Alice Springs tomorrow evening, although there will still be some uphill stretches to negotiate. After Alice Springs the road is down hill for the majority of the trip back to Adelaide.

Staff and students are in good spirits and delighted to be out of the humidity, although student team member, Claire Wong, reports that there are still plenty of bugs making life unpleasant in the outback. The whole team is taking a keen interest in the progress of Australian entrant Aurora!
