RELEASE:
DAY 4 - A STRONG PERFORMANCE
IN THE MORNING!
EOS - The
Spirit of Unley performed well in the morning covering 120 Km of
fairly steep grades in excellent time. Although the car needed to
be trailered in the afternoon to enable the team to reach the Control
Point in Alice Springs by 6 pm, everyone is delighted with the car's
progress. Each night team meetings are held and challenges are set
for the next day.
There is a
great atmosphere at the overnight stops due to the attention our
car is receiving by the locals and the other solar car teams. This
evening a reception was held for all participants with local dignitaries
welcoming the teams. Drinks and nibbles were provided on the lawns
of the camping ground. The car is also receiving a lot of attention
and support from the Greenfleet contingent.
Support team
member, Cynthia Psorakis, today reported that temperatures in the
car have climbed to 60C when it is on the road, due to the heat
generated by the inverters on the back seat. Yesterday driver Georgina
Cogan was so drenched in perspiration after her stint of driving,
that she had to wring out her shorts and T-shirt. Fortunately the
temperature has dropped to 28C this evening, so the team should
be able to catch up on some well-deserved rest. That's if they don't
get bitten by the hordes of
mosquitoes!!!
