RELEASE:
DAY 5 - HISTORY MAKING JOURNEY
AS CAR RUNS ALL DAY UNDER ITS OWN STEAM!
EOS- The Spirit
of Unley ran like a gem today to cover the 202 Km from Alice Springs
to Erlunda on its own power by 3.30 pm. Excited team members celebrated
with a Red Tie Dinner at the Erldunda Caravan Park. Formal dress
- clean thongs, bow ties and Mickey Mouse ears were the order of
the day - as team members cooked kebabs and sat down to eat at attractively
set tables.
The Honda
generators have been performing brilliantly, starting easily every
morning and running all day without missing a beat. This is the
first time in four years that EOS - The Spirit of Unley has run
all day to arrive at the Control Point by the deadline of 6 pm.
Down hill gradients, a tail wind and perfect weather conditions
made for a much smoother run than the steep gradients which they
encountered in the last two days.
Elated team
members will get underway very early tomorrow morning, in an attempt
to cover the 400 Km to Coober Pedy by 6 pm.
The Greenfleet
Class, including EOS - The Spirit of Unley, will arrive back in
Adelaide in Victoria Square at midday on Sunday. A very excited
Home Team will be there to greet them and to celebrate their epic
trip with a barbeque in the grounds of Annesley College. The remaining
solar cars have till 5pm Tuesday to complete the race.
