Unique Directions

It is the policy of Annesley College that all students are given the opportunity to achieve to their full potential. A strong academic program and an extensive co-curricular program underscores our belief that all students should have access to appropriate learning experiences.

The aim of the Unique Directions Policy is to ensure that the needs of all students are recognised, understood and addressed.

Gifted and talented programs

Gifted students benefit from greater access to a wide range of new and challenging experiences, both in the classroom and in the wider community. Our aim is to negotiate an appropriate teaching program for each child through either:

  • enrichment programs (greater breadth of study)
  • extension (greater depth of study)
  • acceleration (faster rate of study)

or other selected activities such as mentor programs, interest groups and competitions.

Academic support programs

Students requiring support in literacy and numeracy are offered individualised attention and /or curriculum modification. Special provisions are arranged through negotiation with parents, teachers and where applicable other professionals. Selected assessment and observational procedures are utilised for the purpose of clarifying particular needs and monitoring student progress.

The following models of support may be used; one to one withdrawal, small group instruction, in class support or cross age tutors (acting as mentors).

Specialised teaching and counselling staff coordinate and contribute to the Unique Directions programs.
