Early Learning Centre – 2 to 5 years of age

Our Early Learning Centre is open 49 weeks of the year and is an accredited, long day centre enabling families to access the child-care benefit and rebate. Our ELC has been assessed by EECSRSB as Exceeding the National Quality Standards.

The learning program in the Early Learning Centre (ELC) is influenced by the international best practice of the Reggio Emilia philosophy. This fosters a sense of inquiry based on the understanding that young children have the ability to not only learn in many ways but also to create their understanding of their world. All children in the Early Learning Centre undertake Units of Inquiry from the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Program (IB PYP). They have many opportunities to engage in hands-on projects that they initiate and lead supported by their teachers and co-educators.

Our curriculum is guided by both the IB PYP and by the National Early Years Learning Framework (EYLF). This forms the foundation for ensuring that children participate in a play-based learning program where the importance of communication and language (including early literacy and numeracy) and social and emotional development is promoted. Fundamental to the EYLF is a view of children’s lives as characterised by belonging, being and becoming.

The learning outcomes are:

  • Children have a strong sense of identity
  • Children are connected with and contribute to their world
  • Children have a strong sense of well-being
  • Children are confident and involved learners
  • Children are effective communicators.

These are achieved through the strong relationships developed and the stimulating play environment which supports children to explore, question, collaborate and reflect.

Our Rooms

In the ELC there are four rooms, two for our younger students and two for our older students. Each room is led by a qualified Early Childhood Teacher working with Co-educators to support each child’s personal, social and cognitive development. We value the relationships we have with our students and their families. We have structured our ELC so that a child may have up to 18 months in a room before transitioning into their next learning environment. This provides an extended length of time for staff and students to play and learn together.

ELC Times

The Early Learning Centre is open 49 weeks of the year (it is closed for three weeks over the Christmas period) and offers an educational program from 7.30 am – 6.00 pm Monday to Friday. We are a Registered and Approved Centre. Families may apply for Child Care Benefit and/or Rebate through Centrelink.
