Principals News
At this point in the school year, I want to say thank you to the dedicated teachers who work tirelessly to bring out the best in every student. I’ve never met a teacher who doesn’t strive to bring out the best in every student.
Teaching is not for the faint hearted. Pedagogical and social change means that teaching now involves increased compliance, responsibility for facilitating learning but also for fostering emotional well-being, managing behaviour, and meeting a diverse range of learning styles and abilities.
However, teaching is about the relationships teachers create with their students where knowledge and skills are passed on to be re-created for an emerging future. Working to create a better world through education is at the core of teaching.
Thank you to our Annesley teachers for the investment made in our Annesley students in every moment of every day this year.
Thank you to our Annesley families in supporting our teachers to do their jobs well.
Local Buy Annesley Market Day
Thank you to everyone who came along to support our Local Buy Annesley Market on November 14th, and congratulations to all the Enterprise groups who ran stalls!
In terms of number of participating students and sales, it was certainly our biggest market yet. The variety of enterprises on show reflected the wonderful diversity of passions, strengths and skills amongst our students at Annesley.
The next step for our students is calculating their sales and costs to determine if they have made a profit. Making a positive difference through our innovations is an essential goal of Enterprise at Annesley, and groups who have made a profit will have an opportunity to donate their earnings to a charitable cause of their choosing.
World Peace Games
They did it! The World Peace Game has been won again at Annesley! Twenty-four global crises were solved and every country finished with its budget increased past its original value. Over 5 days, treaties were written, cheques were exchanged, negotiations and declarations were undertaken, but ultimately it was their collaboration, creativity and compassion that enabled these students to achieve world peace.
Congratulations to the WPG 2024 Award Winners:
- Navarre L – Most Outstanding Player Award
- Isabella C – Eco and Human Rights Award
- Elise H – Peace Prize
These awards are given in every World Peace Game played and are solely awarded on the votes of student participants in each game. It is a credit to these students to be acknowledged for their achievements in the game by their peers.
Premier's Reading Challenge
The Premier’s Reading Challenge is a literacy engagement program that was introduced by the Premier in 2004 to:
- Encourage students to read more books and enjoy reading
- Improve literacy levels
The Challenge requires students to read 12 books between the beginning of the school year and early September.
Congratulations to Milla, Lucy, Logan & Hari who achieved their Hall of Fame medal after 7 years of participation in the annual school reading challenge.
This year at Annesley 192 students took part in the challenge with the following achievements:
- 55 x certificates
- 48 x bronze medals
- 26 x silver medals
- 28 x gold medals
- 26 x Champion medals
- 5 x Legend medals
- 4 x Hall of Fame medals
Well done to all the students who took part in the annual event.

Quest News: Base 6 Road Trip
Base 6 Road Trip: A Journey to Remember!
Our Base 6 students recently embarked on an unforgettable road trip exploring the stunning Southeast region of our state, traveling over 1,100 km across five action-packed days! This unique Annesley adventure, a key milestone of our industry-leading experiential learning program The Quest, provided an opportunity for personal growth, teamwork, and plenty of fun.
The journey began with two nights in the coastal town of Robe, where students embraced the thrill of mountain biking and learned to surf at the picturesque Long Beach. They then travelled to Naracoorte for an exhilarating adventure caving experience, exploring the fascinating underground wonders, and pushing their bodies to the limits and the crawled and squeezed through some unthinkable spaces.
The group crossed into Victoria, spending two nights in Nelson. Here, they canoed along the serene Glenelg River, taking in the breathtaking scenery and learning for local guides about the history of the river.
This adventure was not just about physical challenges but also about building resilience, independence, and lifelong memories. A huge congratulations to all our Base 6 students for embracing every challenge with enthusiasm and determination!

Quest News: The Big and Little Gardening Club
This term, our Reception students have been digging, planting, and growing friendships through The Big and Little Gardening Club. With the wonderful support of volunteers from Resthaven, our students have had the unique opportunity to connect across generations, sharing stories, laughter, and a love of gardening.
Thanks to a generous grant from Unley Council, we’ve been able to expand our Annesley Farm and run a range of exciting engagements. From mulching, propagating, and planting to watering, weeding, and creating beautiful garden art, the students have been busy learning how to care for plants and create a thriving outdoor space.
A special highlight has been discovering the fascinating lifecycle of butterflies, with students marvelling at the transformation from caterpillars to butterflies.
This intergenerational program has not only nurtured our garden but also fostered meaningful connections between our youngest learners and our valued Resthaven volunteers.

We are so thankful to the City of Unley from providing the grant money to ensure this valuable program was able to take place.

U-Turns on Rose Terrace
We ask our families to refrain from undertaking U-turns on Rose Terrace when bringing your child to school or collecting them at the end of the day. It is unlawful to do a U-turn over the yellow barriers on the road and a safety concern during peak times for our community along Rose Terrace during these busy times.

Kiss ‘n’ Drop
Through recent engagement with the Unley Council, they have confirmed guidelines for our community to follow when using the Kiss ‘n’ Drop zone. Drivers must remain within 3 metres of their car in this zone and can only remain stopped for 2 minutes. If a driver moves further than 3 metres away, the 2-minute period no longer applies. We have had regular inspections from Unley Council of this zone recently. We ask our community members to adhere to these guidelines to avoid getting fined, and to keep our Kiss ‘n’ Drop zone functioning effectively.
Supervision before and after school
A reminder to Primary families that supervision for our students is provided from 8.30am on school grounds. Prior to this time, students are not to be left onsite without an adult family member. Our Before School OSHC Service is available to families requiring early supervision from 7.30am to 8.30am. Similarly, staff supervision is provided after school until 3.45pm. OSHC is available to families needing care after school until 6pm.
