Student School Leader Speech 2024
What another fantastic year at Annesley! So much has happened in just a year. This year has been very important for the school with the completion of the school’s Masterplan, this has seen new spaces open up in the new and improved Patchell building. The Base 6 students have enjoyed being the first students to have their learning space in the Patchell Building, now a special rite of passage for all our senior students for years to come. This year has been one of the most memorable years for House spirit as there have been discos, House sports, a Sports Day to remember, connection with House mates over Budding Lunch, and new House T-shirts to come next year.
One of my passion projects this year has been the loyalty cards in the cafe a new design. I have really enjoyed presenting the Strength Awards to students and seeing the joy on their faces. I loved working in the cafe and making hot drinks for our community. The customer service has really helped me improve my social and communication skills. I was even lucky enough to be invited to the unveiling of the new Annesley Junior School Leader Honour Board. This year has helped me grow so much as a leader.
~ Louis
This year I have grown as a leader when I helped set up a leadership podcast, Louis and I interviewed some of the most important leaders in the school, such as Bruce Spangler the Chair of the Annesley Council to learn about his role, we then interviewed Gail Millar-Luke for her career as an Olympic athlete, Josh Carr for his outstanding football career and his current role as assistant coach of Port Adelaide and finally Duncan, celebrity chef and owner of Africola, who has partnered with us to create Budding Lunch. Speaking in front of the whole school every Thursday and at special events has always been the highlight of my year because of the confidence it has built in me. But the thing I have valued the most at Annesley, is that no matter the task, whether it is leadership, maths or even P.E, there is always someone there to support you.
~ Hugh
We are extremely grateful to have been School Leaders this year. We are excited for the next school leaders to take over and do great things, congratulations to Elise and Navarre and all the Annesley senior students for 2025.
Gratitude Chapel for Bruce Spangler AM Chair of Annesley Council
Yesterday in our final Chapel for 2024 we acknowledged the service and impact of our Chair of Council Bruce Spangler AM, 2010 – 2024. The school that we all enjoy today is a testament to the work and governance Bruce has been committed to over many years. Please enjoy this video of our student’s sharing gratitude for Annesley Junior School in tribute to Bruce.

Junior Primary Visual Art:
In the Junior Primary Art studio there has been a flurry of colour with the Mid Year Receptions learning about the colour wheel. Children have been using their personalised colour wheels to create colour monsters – a monster that represents a certain feeling. We have focused on looking at emotions and how certain colours are linked to them. We have loved creating our own colour monsters that have unique personalities.
In Year One students used acrylic paint to create a Pierre Bonnard inspired view from a window. They needed to include a window frame that created the illusion of looking outside. Children could make up a scene or draw from real life. I loved all the beautiful and imaginative landscapes they created. This was part of their How we Express Ourselves unit. In addition to this the Year One students held an Art Exhibition where each class had a different medium of Art to create from and display. These included clay made sculptures, nature based dioramas and canvases of assorted sizes. The variety, creativity and skill level of their masterpieces demonstrated what talented artists Annesley Junior School has.

Lino cuts in Base 5 &6
Linocut printmaking, also known as lino cutting, has been a great learning experience for our Base 5 and 6’s this term. We have been learning the steps to carve, ink and press. It is such a great way to start print making! Base 6 have been connecting with their Unit of Inquiry under the International Bachelorette Transdisciplinary Theme, ‘How the World Works’ and Base 5 have been connecting work to the ‘World Peace Games.’
We have been gliding across our plates with our ‘v’ and ‘u’ shaped cutters, ensuring we don’t dig into our lino. When carving, we move the plate not our arms, especially when working in corners. We have been thinking about the background, midground and foreground to ensure our prints are balanced and captivating to the eye!

U-Turns on Rose Terrace
We ask our families to refrain from undertaking U-turns on Rose Terrace when bringing your child to school or collecting them at the end of the day. It is unlawful to do a U-turn over the yellow barriers on the road and a safety concern during peak times for our community along Rose Terrace during these busy times.

Kiss ‘n’ Drop
Through recent engagement with the Unley Council, they have confirmed guidelines for our community to follow when using the Kiss ‘n’ Drop zone. Drivers must remain within 3 metres of their car in this zone and can only remain stopped for 2 minutes. If a driver moves further than 3 metres away, the 2-minute period no longer applies. We have had regular inspections from Unley Council of this zone recently. We ask our community members to adhere to these guidelines to avoid getting fined, and to keep our Kiss ‘n’ Drop zone functioning effectively.
Supervision before and after school
A reminder to Primary families that supervision for our students is provided from 8.30am on school grounds. Prior to this time, students are not to be left onsite without an adult family member. Our Before School OSHC Service is available to families requiring early supervision from 7.30am to 8.30am. Similarly, staff supervision is provided after school until 3.45pm. OSHC is available to families needing care after school until 6pm.
