The Quest Wins State & National Awards!
Last week, we were presented with both a state and national award for our Quest program, which is leading the way in primary outdoor education.
Kirinari Primary Education Program of the Year Award 2025 – To recognise an outstanding Outdoor Education Primary School program offered to students in South Australia – Outdoor Education Association South Australia (OEASA).
Exemplary Program 2024 – This recognises schools and organisations who have developed and implemented successful, high-quality outdoor education program that is innovative in its design, addressing the needs of the participants , and is socially and environmentally responsible – Outdoor Education Australia.
The Quest showcases Annesley’s commitment to experiential learning with the clear purpose of developing deep knowledge and human capacity in a world now defined by increasing complexity, diversity and technology. Annesley students ‘learn by doing’ in a range of natural settings, chosen to inspire and foster core skills of collaboration, resilience, perseverance, empathy, creativity and communication through great adventures.
We know children learn best through authentic and engaging experiences and at the heart of the Quest is the desire for our children to develop an understanding of our world beyond the school gate. We are proud of the extensive experiences Annesley students gain across our city and state during their primary schooling, knowing the understanding and skills they develop are the perfect preparation for their next steps at high school and beyond.
Over many years, our Annesley team have authentically embedded the Quest program into our learning framework and its carefully-designed, sequential nature is the perfect setting for children to grow and succeed as they dare to become capable, lifelong learners.

World Peace Game Foundation returns to Annesley next week!
Teaching children the work of peace
The World Peace Game first came to Annesley in 2019, it was the first time ever played in Australia. Since then, we have led our upper primary students through this once in a lifetime experience each year. The World Peace Game is now embedded into Annesley’s Year 5 program of inquiry, in their Sharing the Planet Unit ‘Peaceful resolutions require mutual understanding.’
Next week, we welcome international World Peace Game Facilitator Daniel Sheinwald to Annesley to facilitate the Game with our Year 5 students, whilst also leading a Masterclass with four Annesley teachers, and ten visiting teachers from other schools in Australia.
The World Peace Game is a geo-political simulation game and is played over five days. In an engaging, ‘real life’ context, students are trusted to use their inherent wisdom to solve problems and take positive action. They discover that working effectively with others is essential to survival and they learn to rely on each other to win the Game. Students are intentionally thrown into an environment of chaos and disruption but are given control to work with passion and use their critical and creative thinking skills to work for peace.
Will our Year 5 students collectively solve 24 fictional world crises, through immersion in diplomatic process to win the World Peace Game in 2025?
Watch the BTN feature on our First World Peace Game at Annesley in 2019 and John Hunter’s TED Talk about the World Peace Game.

APA News - APA Annual General Meeting Wednesday 19 November, 8am
Parents, Grandparents and Friends of Annesley
The Annesley Parents Association (APA) would like to thank our community for their wonderful contributions throughout 2025. We’ve enjoyed an incredible year of events — from our Term 1 Welcome Drinks to Sports Day, Mother’s and Father’s & Special Friends’ Days and of course, Musical Bingo! None of these events would have been possible without your participation and support — thank you.
Last term, the APA team conducted a survey to get to know our community a little better. We wanted to understand what types of events, fundraising initiatives, and ideas you’d like to see from your APA. We were thrilled to receive so much positive and thoughtful feedback — thank you to everyone who took the time to participate!
If you didn’t have a chance to share your thoughts or would simply like to learn more about the survey results and what the APA does, please join us for our APA Annual General Meeting on Wednesday the 19th November.
At the meeting, we’ll be:
- Sharing the results of the community survey
- Discussing how we can run even better events and fundraisers
- Talking about the role of the APA and how you can get involved
Whether you’d like to join as a member, volunteer at events, or simply share your ideas, your input is valuable to us. The APA exists to make a positive difference in our school community — and we’d love for you to be part of it.
Please come along, enjoy some light refreshments, and take part in what promises to be a positive and engaging discussion.
Children's University Graduation
14 of our students celebrated their Children’s University Graduation on Wednesday this week at Bonython Hall.
Each child’s Children’s University journey. Is unique, as they can select from a vast range of engaging experiences and activities according to their passions, strengths and skills. Children have to complete more than 30 hours of learning outside of school hours throughout the year to reach their next level of graduation. Congratulations to our 2025 graduates!
Year 5 explore the Himeji Gardens
News from Grevillea
Early this term we introduced that we would start going to visit Miss Sophie in her room for Performing Arts. “But how will we get there? How will we know where to go?” the children asked. This sparked conversations between the educators on how many of our children will not connect with our school community until they leave to reception and for those going elsewhere – maybe not at all!
“Well what are we going to do?” we asked
“We need a map!” they replied!
Thus came our “Walk About” inquiry! An inquiry intended to look deeply at and connect with the community around us. Exploring this through the different IB lenses and documenting our learning through mark making and the Reggio Emilia 100 languages.
We have started with a familiar space and have started documenting the Grevillea learning space and ELC gardens. We have been focusing on our observational skills and the different ways we can document the things we see, smell, feel and hear!
Over the last term we have been exploring, observing and creating. We have been visiting new places, noticing and recording the things around us. We have been exploring different mediums such as water colours and oil pastels and discovering how different influences affect our artwork. For example, like painting outdoors! We have created many different maps of our community and are currently working on putting together a book of all our adventures!
House breakfasts! 3 down!
Delphi House kicked off the celebrations last fortnight with a fantastic breakfast, and today Nemea continued the tradition in style. Our community gathered to enjoy a warm breakfast, freshly brewed coffee, and indulgent hot chocolates, all served with a generous helping of House spirit.
House Captains proudly addressed their loyal house families, setting a vibrant and uplifting tone for the day.
And we’re not done yet! Olympia House will wrap up the series with their breakfast next week on 14 November.
Annesley Year 6 Students Shine at SAPSASA Volleyball Carnival
On Thursday, 6th November, 16 enthusiastic Year 6 students proudly represented Annesley at the SAPSASA Volleyball Carnival. Throughout a full day of matches, they competed with determination, energy, and outstanding team spirit.
The event was a fantastic showcase of the volleyball skills, strategies, and teamwork our students have developed over their years at Annesley, and more specifically this term. Each player demonstrated focus and resilience, consistently supporting one another and embodying the values we hold dear as a school.
Their conduct both on and off the court was exemplary. They represented Annesley with pride, respect, and positivity, making us incredibly proud.
Our boys team delivered a strong performance, finishing equal third overall, a great achievement that reflects their dedication and teamwork. Our girls team excelled, securing second place and taking home silver medals. Their success was a testament to their commitment, skill, and joy in playing together.
A heartfelt thank you to Christian O’Dwyer for his support on the day, and special recognition to Zac Venning for his excellent organisation and coaching. The day ran smoothly and created lasting memories for our Year 6 students.
Thank you also to our families for your ongoing support. It was a wonderful celebration of sport, growth, and community.
SAPSASA Knockout Tennis
On Friday 7th November, four dedicated and highly skilled students proudly represented our school at the SAPSASA Knockout Tennis Day. Competing with pride, determination, and a strong competitive spirit, Indigo, Mac, Hamish and Kobe really showed what it means to be part of Team Annesley.
Throughout the day, they played both singles and doubles matches, demonstrating excellent technique, stamina, and sportsmanship. Each student gave their best effort, showing resilience and teamwork across a full schedule of games.
Their behaviour was exemplary, and they represented Annesley with respect and positivity both on and off the court. A heartfelt thank you to the families who supported the day with transport and cheerleading, your help was greatly appreciated.
A special thank you to Zac for organising the event, supervising, and coaching the team. The day was extremely smooth and rewarding for all our students.
Congratulations to our players, you did Annesley proud!
Sharing more wisdom
Our Reception students were delighted to welcome their friends from Resthaven back to Annesley each Wednesday for another session of our Sharing Wisdom intergenerational program. This week marked their third visit, and the joy was evident!
Together, they created, shared stories, and even joined in some gentle exercise. It was heartwarming to see the friendships and connections continuing to grow between our youngest learners and the Resthaven visitors.
We’re excited to keep building these special moments of learning and wisdom.
Congratulations is in order!
Katy (Year 3 Teacher) and Lachie (Year 4 Teacher) have announced their engagement this week after an exciting weekend they shared! We are so pleased for you Katy and Lachie, and wish you every best wish for your future!

Kiss & Drop
Through recent engagement with the Unley Council, they have confirmed guidelines for our community to follow when using the Kiss & Drop zone. Drivers must remain within 3 metres of their car in this zone and can only remain stopped for 2 minutes. If a driver moves further than 3 metres away, the 2-minute period no longer applies. We have had regular inspections from Unley Council of this zone recently. We ask our community members to adhere to these guidelines to avoid getting fined, and to keep our Kiss & Drop zone functioning effectively.
Supervision before and after school
A reminder to Primary families that supervision for our students is provided from 8.30am on school grounds. Prior to this time, students are not to be left onsite without an adult family member. Our Before School OSHC Service is available to families requiring early supervision from 7.30am to 8.30am. Similarly, staff supervision is provided after school until 3.45pm. OSHC is available to families needing care after school until 6pm.
From 4.30pm each day, OSHC requires exclusive access to the eastern playspace (including the soccer field and Adventure playground). After this time, families are asked to move to the western end, utilising the Court and Daphne Gum playground.
