Primary Years Learning

Year 1

The Year 1 students are inquiring into the origins of products, personal histories and how they affect economic activities. To investigate our central idea ‘The marketplace reflects personal histories, culture and their entrepreneurial pursuits’, we set off to the Adelaide Central Market in Week 7 this term. It was a glorious 2 hour tour, learning about where products come from and how to navigate the marketplace.

We were thrilled to visit so many different countries and continents under one roof and taste a variety of foods along the way including bush foods from Australia, biscotti and salami from Italy, dates from Africa, Greek yoghurt from Greece, snake beans from Asia and tomatoes from local growers in Adelaide.

This has helped to expand our perspectives of food globally and to make strong connections with our personal histories and how these impact economic activities.

We loved learning about this iconic Adelaide landmark and being a part of our local community for the day.

A Note from our Chaplain

Learning & Growing Fairly Well

I regularly get the opportunity to observe and overhear our children working and playing together throughout the day. It’s such a privilege and joy to witness how well they relate and engage with each other. It’s even more special when they invite me into their world of learning and imagination. In a time when an individual’s focus can often be about making sure everything is fair for oneself, at Annesley it is qualities of kindness and thoughtfulness which shine through brightest and speak the loudest in our students.

So let me say, if you are a parent of a child/children enrolled at Annesley, I encourage you to continue instilling in your little ones the values and character qualities which are growing them into wonderful young people full of compassion, curiosity, creativity and increasing capacity. It doesn’t go unnoticed, and it doesn’t go unfelt. They are doing well.
