IPSHA Poetry Recital Competition

Annesley is a member of the Independent Primary School Heads of Australia Ltd (IPSHA). IPSHA is a large group of like-minded, highly collaborative independent schools across Australia. Annesley has hosted the SA IPSHA Branch for professional learning and meetings, and Annesley’s students participate in a range of IPSHA opportunities. The majority of SA’s independent schools are members of IPSHA.

The Goals of IPSHA are;

  1. To promote the unique nature and diversity of independent primary schools.
  2. To provide collegial support for members.
  3. To promote the national voice of independent primary schools.
  4. To deliver and facilitate quality professional learning opportunities.
  5. To provide educational opportunities for students.

One such opportunity for Annesley’s students is the IPSHA Poetry Recital Competition. The goal of the competition is to develop a love and appreciation of poetry, memory skills, self-confidence, clear speech, and performance experience. On Monday Annesley students held a Poetry Recital in Gillingham Hall and we congratulate all the students that memorised and presented their poems with passion and commitment. We congratulate Olivia & Harper who will represent Annesley at the upcoming interschool competition, being held at Walford.

In a few weeks time Adelaide will hold the IPSHA National Conference, and Annesley is proud to be showcasing our school to visiting IPSHA Members as part of this significant gathering.

Student Leaders

Last week at Chapel we were able to finally induct our 2022 Student Leaders with Year 3-7 students present and their families in Gillingham Hall. Pastor Pete spoke about responsibility and they were presented with their badges. Our student leader team have designated roles of responsibility and have dedicated time each week to pursue leadership projects that align with their strengths and passions!

Staffing Update

Mid-Year Reception

Monika Falk will be leading the new Mid-Year Reception class which will commence in Term 3, 2022. Monika has been teaching here at Annesley for many years, both in the ELC, in Reception classes and in a relief capacity across our school.  Prior to joining us she also taught Junior Primary and Pre-school.

Mid-Year Orientation mornings will commence soon. Alicia Clare, Co-ordinator R-2, will lead the first two orientation mornings and then Monika will join the students for the remaining three orientation sessions. Monika is very excited to be leading our newest class of Receptions as they transition and begin their journey through the Primary School.

ELC – Banksia Room

Lucy Highett will be replacing Monika Falk in the Banksia room from the commencement of Term 3, 2022. Lucy is very familiar with our ELC community as she has been working as an Educator and relief Teacher across the ELC for several years. Recently Lucy has been relief teaching across our Primary School as well as teaching at Westminster School in the ELC. Prior to teaching Lucy lead teams in the hospitality industry.

Unify

Unify is a second-hand uniform Enterprise, created and launched by two of our 2021 Year 6 graduates last year. This year, a small group of Year 4 students are now working to maintain and promote this initiative that has been designed to reduce clothing waste in our community.

Based in the Crafty Creative next to the Bouncing Bean Café, families are able to browse and purchase pre-loved uniform items for a very reasonable price. Proceeds of Unify are used by students for projects to make the world a better place. Unify is open for business at the following times:

  • Monday 8.15am – 8.45am
  • Wednesday 3pm – 3.30pm
  • Thursday 8.15am – 8.45am

Unify relies on the donations of pre-loved uniform items. Please drop any donations of all sizes to the basket in the Front Office.

Metapraxis Symposium

Members of our Annesley teaching and leadership team have been working on a project with Michael Bunce from the University of East London, an initiative of Association of Independent Schools to drive innovation and entrepreneurship in Schools. On Monday 2 May, our School launched our process and assessment models for each stage of Enterprise across our Primary School. This work is leading the sector in preparing our learners to succeed in our rapidly changing world. This display can been seen outside the Bouncing Bean Café this term.

The Quest

Base 6/7 have started their offsite program, providing rich opportunities for them to learn in the great outdoors and connect with organisations and experts in various sectors. They are currently learning each Monday at Cleland Wildlife Park, exploring this South Australian Government initiative to protect and promote the state’s flora and fauna. Cleland is an outstanding example of an organisation with sustainable and ethical practices, aligning with their current Enterprise Unit of Inquiry. This week, our students chose a professional to shadow for a period of time to further develop their work-related skills, choosing from a PhD Scientist, Chief Operations Officer, Café Manager, Marketing Office, Vet and Habitat Designer.

Spotlight on Enterprise

The Year 1 students have been supported to explore various learning spaces in our School during Enterprise in Term 1. In Term 2, they are conferencing with their teacher to identify areas of interest to explore their creativity and attending nominated learning spaces to work with an Annesley teacher with a similar passion. This week, some Year 1 students developed Ella’s idea of baking cookies. This provided the opportunity to work collaboratively, use their thinking skills to solve problems and learn from an expert . They were all very pleased with the end result!

Board of Directors

Our Annesley Board of Directors raised $1850 last term through their umbrella sales. They are more than halfway towards their target of $3000 needed to purchase a new cubby house café for the playground.

We have experienced several showers already this term and there is undoubtedly more rain to come as we head into the Winter months.  It is not too late to buy your Annesley umbrella!

Our umbrellas can be or purchased on School Stream.
