Farewell to an Annesley Hero
In 2010, Annesley College’s future was uncertain.
Needing new and strategic governance, the Uniting Church asked Mr Bruce Spangler AM to Chair the Annesley College Council to lead decisive action to envision the school’s future.
Bruce had previously served as Chair and Deputy Chair of PAC and Seymour College Councils respectively and his mother and sister were former students of MLC/Annesley College.
In 2011, under Bruce’s chairmanship, the Annesley College Council led work that resulted in it being restructured. In a community statement dated June 2011, the future direction of the school as a co-educational ELC and Junior School was announced:
‘The vision for the Junior School is a place where children will learn social responsibility in the context of a holistic curriculum – comprising a rigorous teaching and learning program and co-curricular offerings.’
Bruce has devoted countless hours of unpaid work to Annesley Junior School as Chair of our Council from 2010 until now overseeing the fulfilment of vision that has become the School we all enjoy today. Bruce will complete his time as Chair of Annesley Council at the end of the 2024 school year. With two grand daughters attending Annesley Junior School and his generous offer to continue supporting the school as needed, we will still enjoy having Bruce in our Annesley community.
It can be comfortably said that if Bruce did not commit to Annesley during its most complex of days, the school would not be in existence today. To say his wisdom, discernment and strength saved the school, is to speak the truth. And, to this day Bruce’s continued legacy is a flourishing school, because of his wise, pragmatic, creative and enabling leadership of Annesley since 2010.
Bruce Spangler

New AJS School Leader Honour Board
Last Friday night, at the Old Scholars Drinks @ Gillingham Event, we unveiled a new Honour Board in Gillingham Hall, recognising the School Leaders of Annesley Junior School from 2018 – 2024.
It was a joyful moment to share in this with many of these previous School Leaders attending this momentous occasion in our recent school history.
This was a student-led initiative of our two School Leaders in 2023 to create this new board, and acknowledgement must also be given to the Annesley Parent’s Association (APA) who funded this project.

U-Turns on Rose Terrace
We ask our families to refrain from undertaking U-turns on Rose Terrace when bringing your child to school or collecting them at the end of the day. It is unlawful to do a U-turn over the yellow barriers on the road and a safety concern during peak times for our community along Rose Terrace during these busy times.

Kiss ‘n’ Drop
Through recent engagement with the Unley Council, they have confirmed guidelines for our community to follow when using the Kiss ‘n’ Drop zone. Drivers must remain within 3 metres of their car in this zone and can only remain stopped for 2 minutes. If a driver moves further than 3 metres away, the 2-minute period no longer applies. We have had regular inspections from Unley Council of this zone recently. We ask our community members to adhere to these guidelines to avoid getting fined, and to keep our Kiss ‘n’ Drop zone functioning effectively.
Supervision before and after school
A reminder to Primary families that supervision for our students is provided from 8.30am on school grounds. Prior to this time, students are not to be left onsite without an adult family member. Our Before School OSHC Service is available to families requiring early supervision from 7.30am to 8.30am. Similarly, staff supervision is provided after school until 3.45pm. OSHC is available to families needing care after school until 6pm.
